NanSea's Fairytale Story
Magically, I appeared in the summer of 69', delivered by mermaids (who gave me my name) and raised by fairies... well, this is the story I was told. Now I live among gypsies in the magically sparkly land by the sea, Laguna, where rainbows and sandcastles are made.
Kisses, wishes, butterflies, and cupcakes make the world go round, or at least make life much more fun. I'm "in love" with love, life, dreams, fairytales and the beautiful glittering angels that surround me; these angels are my friends and family.
Art, to me, should be a reflection of all things that make your heart happy and your spirit smile. My mother was an artist, and as a child, I remember her being covered in paint, glue, and glitter, always creating something beautiful. She inspired me and gave me the wings to fly, go out into the world, and become a "big girl."
I moved to Toluca Lake (N. Hollywood), CA. in 1998 to work for a franchise that was based in Florida. Much of my time was spent traveling, so on planes and in hotel rooms I would doodle colorful cartoon girls to pass the time. I started putting them in tiny frames and giving them to my friends and family. Eventually, I was selling them in little shops in NoHo, Sausalito & San Luis Obispo and these silly gyrls covered the walls of my small Hollywood apartment.
In July of 2003, I broke my back in a car accident. In just an instant, my life changed. My sister, Mary, sent me a box filled with my grandmother's pastel chalks to occupy my time and lift my spirits. Little did I know that these pastels were filled with moonbeams and stardust...magic that must have been left behind by my fairy grandmother.
It sometimes seems that light can be born out of our darkest moments.
I began showing my art at the Sawdust Art Festival in 2004 for the Winter Fantasy Show. Sawdust turns into this magical wonderland during the Winter Fantasy, making this my favorite time of year.
In 2008, I moved to Laguna Beach, and began the fourth chapter of my story. Along the path of life, I had forgotten that we don't have to grow up. That I can still love pink, stop to pick daisies, laugh out loud, and dance when I hear music. Life is so short...we have to take every moment to love those around us and take joy in all the small things.
My art is playful; "art for the young at heart" is what I say. Life is filled with broken hearts and dark moments, but art can be the one escape. We create our own fairytales or as my best friend says "we decide how the story ends".
